Do you Speak English ?

Hi everybody,

So let me present you my first special skill : “I speak english”

I took two English tests last year, the first one was the TOEFL and I got 90/120 and the second one was the TOIEC, and I got 845/990. So we can say that I passed them both.

I still have a lot of connections with my ASU friends, and I’m an English student’s Godmother, and like I told you a couple of posts before, my American friend Valerie is now in Lille with me. So I do practice a lot, even if I make mistakes, but the most important thing is that I’m talkative and usually, I’m able to correct myself.

When I was in the US, I noticed that there were different kinds of English :
- The English that you speak with your teachers (is the one that you usually learn in school)
- The English that you talk with american student (a lot of slang, so it’s difficult to understand it in the first place)
- and my favorite one : the International English. Because there are a lot of International students, with a lot of different English levels, we were using an English based on easy and descriptive words. So now, even when I’m making mistakes, people are always able to understand me, since I’m using a basic and understandable vocabulary.

I remember that I got this job interview, and the director told me “845 on TOEIC ? It’s not a good grade ! I got the same !” First, I think he is wrong, 845 is definitely a good grade, then, I got this 845 not in studying in books, but practicing. The people I know get almot the same grade and aren’t able to talk ! I think it’s sometimes very frustrating during an interview to be judged just on a grade, when there is so much more to it than that!
I remember when I was in the US…I went beyond several important steps :
1) being able to speak in English fluently with people and undersand them
2) being able to speak in English fluently on a phone and understand the other one
3) being able to speak in English fluently in a very noisy place and understand the other person
4) being able to speak in English fluently in a phone when you are in a noisy place and understand the other one

Step 1 to 3 are good. Step 4 not yet ! (but sometimes it’s even impossible in French, so it’s not a big deal !) But I wanted you to understand that the sounds that your ears are able to hear, and the way that you pronouce words are getting better and better everyday when you pratice.

Parce que mes lettres de motivation ne vous disent pas tout…

Bonjour à tous,

Comme je l’expliquais dans un un précédent post, je suis en pleine recherche de stage. J’envoie CV et lettres de motivation à mes enseignes favorites. Et étant une naturelle bavarde, je me sens parfois assez frustrée d’être limitée en terme de lignes dans mes lettres de motivation. 

Il est toujours agréable de parler de soi, et je n’aimerais pas que ma candidature soit rejetée parce qu’une qualité, un atout n’aie pas été cité dans ma lettre.

C’est pourquoi, à partir d’aujourd’hui je m’appliquerais à faire un post par semaine sur mes qualités et points de progrès.

Objectif : Stage et Alternance

Bonjour à tous,

Je vous parlais récemment de mon amie Valérie que j’avais rencontrée lors de mon programme d’échange à l’ASU (cliquez ici pour relire cet article). Valérie est arrivée il y a deux semaines à Lille et étudiera maintenant à la FLSH pour une durée de 5 mois. Nous avons décidé de nous traduire mutuellement nos CV. 

Je pense postuler pour des entreprises situées aux Etats-Unis, et de préférence sur Phoenix. J’ai donc besoin d’un “resume” d’un style plus Anglo-Saxon (c’est à dire qui focalise plus sur les études, décrit les classes auxquelles j’ai assistées)

Je postule cette année pour un stage touchant particulièrement au monde de la mode : assistante chef de marché, chef de collection, chef de projet, marketing produits, marketing clients sont des postes et secteurs qui m’intéressent énormément (je reste fidèle à moi-même, très curieuse et ouvert quant aux différents métiers)

Un des gros inconvénients à postuler à l’étranger est pour mon année de Master 2 en alternance car je devrais rechercher à distance une entreprise.

Vous êtes de plus en plus nombreux à visiter ce blog, alors je lance un appel à mon offre de service.
